Shree
Somnath Trust which looks after
the development and maintainance of the entire
Somnath Complex was founded by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who had
taken a pledge to reconstruct the Somnath Temple on the sea-shore
nearby on November 13, 1947.The Trust was headed by
the first Rajpramukh of Saurashtra, Jamsaheb
Digvijaysinhji as Chairman till 1966, by renowned Gujarati
author Shri Kanaiyalal Munshi during 1966 -
67, by the former Prime Minister of India Shri Morarjibhai Desai
from 1967 to 1995 and its current Chairman
is the Ex-Mayor of Ahmedabad and an industrialist
Shri Jaykrishna Harivallabhdas. Other eminent persons who have
served as trustees include Union Ministers Shri
N . V. Gadgil, Shri Khandubhai Desai, Shri Jaisukhlal Hathi,
Gujarat Minister Shri Dineshbhai Shah, Members of Parliament
Shri Chittaranjan Raja and Shri Prasannavadan Mehta, Minister
of former Saurashtra state Shri D. T. Dave, industrialists
Shri Brijmohan Birla, Shri Girdharilal Mehta, Shri Gangaprasad
Birla and Shri Rajan Kilachand and eminent citizens like
Shri Shyamaldas Gandhi, Shri D.V. Rege, Prof. J.D. Parmar
and Rajmata Gulabkunwarba of Jamnagar. Now Shri
L.K. Advani-currently India's Home Minister and Shri
Keshubhai Patel, Gujarat's Chief Minister
are also the Trustees of the Trust. Shree Somnath
Trust has completed the reconstruction of the main
temple, renovated and or built other temples in
the complex and it looks after their maintainance
and pooja - vidhis. It provides pilgrim facilities
like accomodation etc. in various guest-houses built and
maintained by it. It runs two big Dharmashalas also. Accomodation
thus provided includes 128 and 16 double -
bed rooms in Tanna - Damani complex and Modinagar respectively,
20 three - bed rooms in Bitco-Kamani-Desai complex, 4 four-bed
rooms in Modinagar, 9 beds in three rooms in H. K.
Bungalow, 6 air-conditioned double-bed rooms in V.I.P. guest-house.
Accomodation for 300 pilgrims in twenty
rooms in Ahalyabai Dharmashala and for 150 in three big halls
in Bhatia Dharma-shala is also available. The charges of accomodation
are affordable and reasonable.
