Annapurnesvari

PRAYER TO KASI ANNAPURNESVARI
This is an ideal chant to thank Goddess Annapurnesvari for blessing us with Good Food for our health and happiness.
The meaning of Anna is 'food' in Sanskrit, and Purna means completely full or completely full.
Annapurna is the Hindu goddess of food and cooking which could also be interpreted as abundance.
Hindu Mythology states that she is empowered with the ability to supply food and nourishment to an unlimited amount of people. Goddess Annapurna is an incarnation of the goddess Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva. (The mighty Lord Shiva is often depicted begging before her, with a skull begging-bowl, and the Goddess serving food.)
She symbolizes the divine aspect of nourishing care. She also is a symbol of fertility and agriculture. This makes her a hugely popular deity  specially with women worshippers in India . Goddess Annapurna  has a few separate shrines dedicated to her .She has a huge following in the eastern states of India She is depicted with a jeweled vessel containing food in one hand and a spoon in the other to distribute the food to her devotees or children, signifying that the worshipper is assured of food throughout his/her life time. Goddess Annapoorna is also the Supreme Goddess of the city of Kasi (now known as Varanasi), the city where moksha (freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth) could be attained.

It is believed that when food is cooked with the spirit of holiness it becomes alchemy.

You are the supreme Goddess who purifies
The lineage of mount Himvan

And give us biksa (alms)
