For Sacred Learning

May the all-pervading Lord of Speech and thrice seven that bear all forms, bestow upon me today their powers. O Lord of Speech and of good come again, with divine mind and let it abide in me, in myself be what is heard. Like a hero who bends the two tips of the bow with its string, so do thou protect us with both thy hands, O Lord of Speech, and let me in, in myself, be what is heard, i.e., the knowledge of the Vedas. Invoked is the Lord of Speech, on us may the Lord call. May we be ever united with the Vedas which are heard, let us never be parted from them.

Charm Against Injury

We know the father of the arrow-bearing hero, Parjanya, the bountiful nourisher, and well do we know his mother Earth of multiforms.

O bowstring, bend about us, make myself strong as a stone. Do thou hold very far away from us the enemy and the haters.

When the bowstring, embracing the bow, greets with a whiz the hero, do thou, O Indra, keep away from us the shaft and piercing missile.

As between the heaven and earth stands the reed-stalk, so may the Lord stand unfailingly between as and sickness and discharge of blood.

Charm Against Obstruction of Urine

We know the father of arrow-bearing hero, Parjanya, of hundred-fold power; with this charm may I make the body disease-less and healthy. May the outpouring on the earth be yours, may it come out of you with a splash. What is accumulated in thine entrails, in thy canals and bladder, may it be released out of you completely with a splash.

May it spilt open like the dike of a canal, that the water be released out completely, with a splash. Unfastened be the opening of your bladder like an ocean, the reservoir of water, and may your urine be released out completely.

As a shaft flies forth, discharged from the bow, so be your urine be discharged out completely, with a splash!

For Blessings from Waters

The mothers go along their paths, sisters of them that make sacrifice, mingling honey with milk.

Ay they who are yonder at the sun, and those with whom is the sun, speed forth this our sacrifice.

I call on the heavenly waters, wherein our kine drink to quench their thirst; oblations is to be made to the rivers.

Within the waters is amrit, in the waters is remedy, by the praises of the waters the horses become vigorous, the kine become vigorous.

To the Waters for Blessings

O Waters, since you are beneficent, so help you us to strength that we may look on to great joy. What is your most auspicious sap, of that give us a share, like mothers in their longing love.

O Waters, you generate us, to you we gladly come for him to possess whom you quicken us on. I beg the Waters to give us remedy, of these streams having mastery of desirable things, ruling over human beings.

To the Waters Seeking Blessings

May the divine Waters be weal for us, for our aid and bliss. May they stream unto us health and strength. Within Waters lie all healing balms. Soma has told me, and Agni, good for all.

O Waters, teeming with medicine, keep my body safe from harm that long I may see the Sun. O Waters of the plains, those of the marshes, and those got by digging, bestow weal on us and also that brought in a vessel and those of the rain be propitious to us all.

Against Sorcerers

O Agni, bring hither the sorcerer that Vaunts himself and the Kimdin, for thou O God, being revered, becomest the slayer of the demon. O most exalted Jatavedas, self-controller, partake of this sacrificial ghee and seasame oil, make the sorcerers howl!

May this oblation bring the sorcerers hither as a stream carries the feam. Let that person, man or woman, who has done this sorcery, speak out. Wherever, O Agni, thou perceivest the brood of these sorcerers, the hidden devourers, do thou, mightily strengthened by our oblations, slay them, piercing them a hundred-fold.

To Agni and Other Gods

May the Vasus, Indra, Pushan, Varuna, Mitra and Agni bestow good things on him. May the Adhityas, and all the other Gods hold him superior light!

At his bidding, O Gods, let there be light, Sun, Agni and even gold. Inferior to him be his rivals; make his ascend the highest heaven!

With what highest worship, O Jatavedas, thou didest bring to Indra the Soma-draughts, therewith, O Agni do thou strengthen this man here; give him supremacy over his fellowmen!

Release from Untruth

Homage, to thy wrath, O King Varuna, for all malice do thou know, O mighty one. A thousand others I make over to thee. A hundred autumns shall live this man!

I release thee from the untruth thou hast uttered, and the much wrong done with thy tongue; from King Varuna whose laws are inviolate.

For Easy Childbirth

O Pushan, let Aryaman as efficient hotar-priest utter vashat for thee. May this woman, herself rightly begotten, be delivered, may her joints relax that she shall give birth.

Four are the directions of the sky, four also of the earth, the Gods together created the foetus. May they open her that she brings forth.

As flies the wind, as flies the mind, and as flies the bird, So do thou, O ten months old embryo, fly along with placenta, may it fall down.

Against Ailments

Release him from (lightning-gendered) headache and from cough, that has entered his every joint. May the cloud-born lightning and born of the wind, strike the forest trees and mountains.

Comfort be to my upper limb, comfort be to my lower limb, comfort be to my four limbs, comfort be to my whole body.

Homage to Lighting

Homage to thy lighting, to thy thunder and to thy bolt wherewith thou strikest the malicious one. Homage to thee, O child of heights, whence thou gatherest energy, be gracious to our progeny. Thou whom all the Gods generate, the mighty one, the gods created the bolt for thy hurling, do thou, praised in the assembly, be kind to us, to thee as such we pay homage, O Goddess!

A Women's Incanation Against Her Rival

Her fortune and splendour I have taken unto myself as a wreath from off a tree. Like a mountain with a broad base may she sit long with her parents.

Let this woman be subjected to thee as thy wife, O King Yama, be she fixed to the house of her mother or her brother or her father!
