The Amulet of Varana Tree

This is my Varana-amulet, a lusty amulet that destroys my rivals, with it do thou seize your foes and shatter those who would harm you!

Shatter them, crush them, take hold of them, this amulet shall be thy vanguard in front, with the varana amulet the gods did ward off the attack of hostile demons day after day.

This varana amulet, thousand-eyed, all-healing, yellow and golden, it shall subdue the foes, do you in front lay low them who hate you!

The varana will ward off the sorcery that has been practised against you, this will preserve you against danger from men, this will protect you from all evil!

This divine tree of Varana shall ward off the disease that has entered this man, the disease that the gods, too, have warded off.

If in sleep you behold an evil dream, if a wild beast run a violent course, from excess sneezing, from the evil call of a bird this amulter, the Varana shall protect you.

From Arati, from Nirriti, from sorcery, from distress, from death and deadly weapon, the Varana shall protect you.

The sin that my mother, that my father, that my brothers or that we ourselves have committed, from that this divine tree will protect us.

Confounded and thrust forth by Varana my enemies and my rival kinsman have gone to the gloomy world, let them go to the nethermost world of darkness.

May I remain unharmed, with unharmed kine, long-lived, with all my men. May this Varana, this amulet protect me on all sides of space!

This Varana on my breast, the royal, divine tree, shall drive away my foemen, as Indra the Asuras, the demons!

Long-lived, a hundred autumns old, do I bear this Varana. May it grant me both royalty and authority, cattle and might.

As the wind breaks the tree with force, the giant trees of the forest, so do you break my enemies, those born before and after. The Varana shall protect you!

Do you cut off, O Varana, them before their appointed time, before their mature age, them who strive to harm him in cattle, and threaten his royal authority!

As the sun shines resplendently, as in him effulgence has been implanted, so shall the Varana amulet implant in me fame and prosperity, shall sprinkle me with brilliance. May it cover me with glory!
