O Agni, come thou into being, Aditi here, I her travail desiring sons, she is cooking the rice-dish for Brahmans. The Seven seers, who crated the beings, man thy churn thee, alone with progeny.

Make the smoke, O ye lusty friends, unharmed go ye to the contest. This Agni here wins battles, commands warriors, with his aid gods conquered the demons.

O Agni, thou has been kindled to a great heroism, to cook the Brahman's rice-dish, O Jatavedas. The Seven Seers who create the beings, have generated thee, do thou grant this woman wealth along with heroes!

Burn, O Agni, be thou kindled with the fire-wood. Mayest thou bring hither skillfully the worshipful gods making the oblation, cook for these Brahmans, Do thou make this man rise to the highest heaven!

The threefold share that is yours of old is et apart, of gods, of Fathers, of mortals. Know ye the shares. I divide them for you. The share that is of the gods shall protect this woman.

O Agni, mighty, conquering, thou subduest without fail, bow down our hateful foes. May this measure, that is being measured, and has been measured, make the follows bring tributes to thee!

Mayes thou in the company of thy fellows be endowed with milk, urge this woman to grant heroism. Ascend thou aloft to the summit of the heaven, which they call the heavenly world.

May this great Earth, graciously accept this sacrificial hide. Then may we proceed to the world of heaven!

Joint thou these two press-stones on the hide, crush well the Soma shoots for the sacrificer, O Earth, crush and smite down those who are hostile to this woman, bear her progeny aloft, elevate!

Seize into thy hands, O hero, these two press-stones that grind together. The reversed gods have come to the sacrifice, whatever three boons thou choosest, I shall here procure for thee unto fulfilment.

This is thy purpose, and this thy place of birth. may Aditi, mother of heroic sons, take hold of thee. Thrash them out who are hostile to this woman; bestow wealth along with heroes upon this woman!

These maidens (waters) have come hither, adorning themselves. Arise, thou woman and gather strength. To thee, who is well-spoused by thy husband and by thy progeny made rich in progeny, the sacrifice has come, receive thou this water vessel!

A Prayer to Bhava and Sarva

Bhava, o Sarva, be auspicious, do not be against us, ye lords of beings, lords of cattle, homage be to ye twain! Let not your arrow fly even after it has been fitted on the bow and drawn. Do not harm out bipeds and quadrupeds!

Make not our bodies for the dog, or the jackal, for the buzzards, the vultures, and the black birds, that are greedy. O lord of cattle, let thy flies and birds not get us to devour!

Homage do we pay. o Bhava, to thy roar, to thy breath, and to thy harming qualities. Homage do we pay, O Rudra, to thee, thou thousand-eyed god!

We pay homage to thee in front, above, below and from every side and from heaven. Homage be to thine atmosphere!

To thy face, O lord of cattle, to thy eyes, O Bhava, to thy skin, to thy form, to thy appearance and they aspect from behind homage be!

May we never be in conflict with Rudra, the blue crested archer, the thousand-eyed, mighty one, the half slayer!

May Bhava steer clear on all sides from us, as fire the water, may he steer clear from us . May he never scheme against us homage be to him!

Four times, eight times, be homage to Bhava, ten times be homage to thee, O lord of cattle. Thou art the master of these five: kine, horses, men, sheep and goats!

Thine are the four quarters, thine the heaven, thine the earth, thine, O mighty one, this wide space, thine is all that has a soul and breath upon the earth.

Thine is this vast vessel, holder of riches, within which are contained all beings. Be auspicious to us, O lord of cattle, homage be to thee! Let the jackals, the evil portents, the dogs go away from us, away the mourners who bewail with disheveled hair!

O Crested god, thou who bears a golden bow which smites thousands, that slays husbands, Rudra's arrow, a missile of gods, flies far, homage be to that, in whatever direction it flies from here!

He who lurks in order to attack thee, O Rudra, him thou pursuest from behind like a hunter chasing a wounded animal.

Bhava and Rudra, allied in harmony, both mighty unto heroism, homage be to them, in whatever direction they may be.

Homage be to thee coming, O Rudra, homage to thee going, homage be to standing, and also homage be to thee while sitting.

Homage in the evening, homage in the morning, homage by night, homage by day, both to Bhava and Sarva I have paid homage!

May we never cause offence to Rudra with our speech, him who hurls, his shafts, sees all, is thousand-eyed and manifoldly wise.

We go forward to great him that has dark horses, is black, sable, destructive, terrible, who made Kesin fall down from his car, homage be to him!

Do not let fly at us thy club, thy missile, be not angry with us, O lord of cattle. Shake over the heavenly branch some other than us, homage be to thee!

Harm us not, bless us, be not incensed, let us not be in conflict with thee!

Be not greedy for our kine, our men, and goats and sheep. Speed forth thy missile, O mighty one, elsewhere to strike the progeny of the blasphemers!

Homage be to thy shouting hosts, O god, homage be to thy long haired-ones, homage be to them who are revered, homage be to thy devouring hosts!
