Agni, the golden God, the Dawn’s lover has spread forth his far-reaching lustre. He, the golden hero, refulgent, pure, has aroused and inspired our eager thoughts. He, like the Sun shines forth while the Dawn breaks, and the priests sing the laud at sacrifice, revealing their prayful minds. Agni, the most bounteous, who know well the generations, visits the Golds as the swift envoy. To Agni are addressed our songs and sacred verses, seeking the God and asking his kind favours, to the beautiful to look on, of lovely visage, the mighty mediator who carries man’s oblations. O Agni, bring here unto us Indra, along with Vasu, bring here the mighty Rudra with all his followers, Aditi gracious to all men, along with his sons and much invoked Brihaspati with the Singhers. Man prayfully worship Agni at sacrifice, the ever youthful God, the priest of joy. He is verily the God of all the riches, an untired envoy to the Gods at the Yajna.

Pour forth oblations in his mouth, the kind of God, worthy of reverence, our closest friend and kin. Agni, who has seated himself in every home for people’s weal, lord of the house, seer, youthful. May this Agni guard us and our homes from all sides. May he protect us from woe! I will compose a new hymn of praise to Agni, the falcon, he is sure to give us riches. How fair are his glories to behold as he shines forth at the sacrifice, like one possessed of heroic sons. May he protect us from woe! I will compose a new hymn of praise to Agni, the falcon, he is sure to give us riches. How fair are his glories to behold as he shines forth at the sacrifice, like one possessed of heroic sons. May he be pleased with our invocation! O, ye worthy of our invocations, lord of our homes, rich in wealth of heroes, may we set you down. Glow forth at night, shine forth of morn, your favour has kindled our homes, by your favour we shall be rich in heroes!

O Indra, the lowest earth is thine, thou cherishest the middle region, thou rulest the highest one. Thou art the lord of the whole world. None can resist thee in the world. Thou art the lord far famed for giving wealth to every one in the battle. O much invoked, all men on the earth call thee for protection. If I, O Indra, were the lord or riches ample as thine, I would give them, O king, to the singer who scattered wealth and never cast him to woe. Each day would I enrich the man who sang my laud in whatever place he be. O Indra, no kinsman is better shelter than thee, no father is better guardian than thee. The active man with skill will win the spoil. O Indra, muck invoked, I bow unto you with my song, just as a carpenter bends the wheel of wood for smooth motion. They who bestow great riches love not paltry praise, wealth comes not to a niggard churl. Light is the task to give all things that are worth giving, O Indra, to one like me on this day. Like cows unmilked we call to thee. O Indra, and sing thy laud. Thou all-knowing, lord of the animate and inanimate creation, we bow unto thee. None other divine like thee has ever been, nor ever shall be. None like thee has ever been born on this earth nor ever shall be. We longing for horses and kine, O Maghvan, call on thee. O Mighty Indra, bring thou all this unto us, as thou art rich in treasures from of old and worthy of being invoked in each fray! O Indra, grant us wisdom like a sire to his sons. Guide us, on our path, O much invoked, let us live long and look upon the Sun. Grant us that no foe, whoever mighty, unknown and malevolent, tread us to the ground. O heroic Indra, may we through thy aids accomplish all our deeds without any hinderance!

May the God Savitar, chariot borne, rich in treasures celestial, filling the heavens, come hither, dispensing that which makes man happy, lulling to slumber and then arousing all the living beings. His arms, mighty, golden, sublime, far extended, reach the limits of heaven. Now his greatness is to be highly lauded, even the Sun submits to him his active service. Now, may this God Savitar, strong and mighty the Lord of riches, grant us his wealth. May he, extending his wide spread radiance, bestow on us the food that nourishes human beings. These our songs laud Savitar of gentle tongue, whose arms are full and hands lovely. May he grant us strength. Preserve us evermore, ye Gods, with blessings!

Without rest they flow from the depths, pure, ever active, the Waters, the Ocean, their Chief, through the channels ordained by Indra, the thunderer. Now may those divine waters, protect me! They may pour forth from heaven, or run through channels made by men, or flow freely, pure and sparkling, rushing to the Ocean. Now may these divine Waters protect me! In the midst of these waters, moves Varuna, the sovereign lord, he who discriminates man’s truth from falsehood. Exceedingly sweet, bright, purifying and clear are these waters. Now may these divine Waters protect me! From them, Varuna the King, soma and all the other Gods drink strength and vitality. Into them Agni, Vaishvanara has entered. Now may these divine Waters protect me!
