(Savs Tulasidasa -) O soul, why do you not worship Rama, who has instants, moments, minutes, years, ages and aeons for his fierce arrows and Time for his bow?

I do homage to Rama, the supreme Lord, whom Love’s enemy, Shiva, adores, who dispels the dread of rebirth, a lion to slay the wild elephant, Death; the lord of ascetics, attainable through immediate knowledge; the storehouse of all good qualities, unconquerable, attributeless, immutable, beyond illusion; the sovereign of the gods, intent upon destroying the wicked, the only guardian deity of the Brahmans, dark and beautiful as a cloud laden with moisture, lotus-eyed, God who appeared in the form of an earthly king!

I reverence Shankara, who is as lustrous in hue as the conch and the moon; the all-beautiful in person, clad in tiger’s skin and bedecked with horrible black snakes; lover of the Ganga and the moon, the lord of Kashi, the destroyer of the sins of the Kaliyuga; the tree of Paradise to yield the fruit of blessedness for the mere asking; the storehouse of all perfections; the vanquisher of Kamadeva (Love); the ever adorable lord of Parvati.

May Shankara, who confers on the virtuous that final beatitude which is so hard to win and who punishes the wicked, may that same Shankara give me manifold blessings!

On hearing Ocean’s suggestion, Lord Rama summoned his counsellors and spoke to them thus: ‘Why delay now? Build the bridge that the army may pass over.’

‘Listen, O Banner of the Solar race,’ said Jambavan with folded hands, ‘your name itself, Lord, is a bridge on which men mount and cross the ocean of mundane existence.

Should it then take long to cross this insignificant sea?’ hearing these words, the Son of the Wind said, ‘My Lord’s might, like the fierce fire beneath the sea, had before now dried up the waters of the ocean.
