Jai Maa Durga

As soon as Shumbha got the news of the death of his chieftains Chanda and Munda, he himself came at the head of a huge army to fight against Durga.

Seeing the vast army of the demons marching towards her, Durga resounded the earth and the sky with the terrible twang of her bow. Then followed the terrifying roar of her great lion which made the demons shudder for a moment.

The twang to the bow and the roar of Durga's lion echoed in all the directions. Kali too, gave out a horrible roar and widened her mouth to such an extent as could devour the whole army of the demons.

Undaunted the enemy soldiers advanced forward at a terrific pace and surrounded Durga, her lion and Kali on all sides.

That very moment for the destruction of the demons and the protection of the Gods, the divine powers of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Kartikeya, Indra and a host of others issued forth from their bodies in their identical forms and approached Durga to help her kill the demons. These motherly powers were bubbling with great valour and prowess.

There were the Brahmani, the Maheshawari, the Kaumari, the Vaishnavi, the Varahi, the Narsinghi and the Indrani. They were all full of great zeal, fervour and enthusiasm to exterminate the demoniac forces.

The feminine or motherly power of each and every God resembled the God himself in form, ornaments and vehicle.

Brahma's power known as Brhamani came seated on her Hansa Vehicle with the indestructible garland and Kamandalu of water in her hands.

Mahadev's female power known as Maheshwari was seated on her bull, having a trident in her hand and bedecked with bangles of horrible serpents round her wrists, with the moon-beam shining on her forehead descended on the battle-field to destroy the demons.

Swami Kartikeya's power in his very image known as 'Kaumari' came flying on her vehicle the pretty peacock having a 'Powerful Shakti' in her hand.

The divine female power of Vishnu called Vaishanavi came riding on her 'Garuda'. She had a conch, a Chakra, a mace and a bow in her hands. Vishnu's pig power known as Varahi was also there to help Durga destroy the demons.

Narsingha's female power 'Narsinghi as a horrible lioness came bouncing shaking her mighty manes which were instrumental in scattering the stars in the sky.

Similarly Lord Indra's female power Indrani beautified with a thousand eyes came riding on her white elephant Airavat wielding the invincible Vajra in her hand.

Then Mahadeva who was surrounded by all these divine powers asked Durga to annihilate the demon forces.
