Jai Maa Durga |

And Lo! Then came out of Durga's body the nerve-wrecking horrible Chandika. Her roar was as terrible as the combined roar of a hundred Mahadevas. Chandika, the invincible, asked Lord Mahadeva, "O Lord! Go to the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha as my ambassador! Give them my message-"If you wish to live alive, restore Indra's kingdom back to him, allow the Gods to enjoy the pleasures and go to your under world to live there for ever."
Hearing Chandika's message from Shiva, Shumbha and Nishumbha boiling with rage pounced upon Durga with all their might. A terrible battle broke out. All sorts of weapons and missiles flew into the air.
Brahmani sprinkled holy water from her Kamandalu over the demons to destroy their enthusiasm and strength. Maheshawari started killing the demon soldiers with her mighty trident in thousands.
Vaishnavani was beheading the demon soldiers with her sharp wheel. Indrani was throwing down dead the demons with her powerful Vajra. Narsinghi was tearing the soldiers apart with her sharp claws.
When Raktbeeja pounced upon the maternal powers, Indrani attacked him with her invincible Vajra. As a result the strong demon began to bleed. But a great miracle happened. The moment a drop of blood fell from his body to the earth, a demon of his equal strength cropped up and started fighting as bravely as Raktbeeja himself.
There were as many Raktbeejas fighting on the battlefield as the number of blood drops fell from his body to the ground. The whole of the battle-field teemed with Raktbeejas fighting here, there and everywhere. They fought against the female army of Durga with great valour wielding all kinds of weapons and missiles. No sooner were they wounded by the female forces than millions of them again cropped up from their drops of blood. Thus the battlefield was fully infested with millions of Raktbeejas.
