O Agni, the Son of Strength, glorious friend, whom we praise, bring us bliss. O Agni, reveal to us the mind that wins success in battles with fiends, wherewith thou conquerest in war! Dash to the ground the firms hopes of the foe-men and let us overthrow them with your aids. I laud with hymn the friend of mortal men, made envoy and oblation-bearer by the Gods, the best messenger and convey or gifts. O Son of Strength, if you were the mortal, and I the immortal, I would not deliver you to evil tongues, O Bounteous One, to calumnies. My devotee would not be in distress, Agni, or sin, or be in hunger! Like a son loved in his sire’s house, let our burnt offerings reach unto the Gods. O Agni, may I, a mortal, with an immortal to help, thou excellent, with thy immediate aid attain my desires. May I collect one, thou art my Providence, be pleased to be generous. O Agni, he whom thou choose as your friend, conquers with thine aid, possessing many heroic sons and great deeds.

O matchless one, we call on thee, desiring our protection, possessing nothing of our own, O thunder armed, O Indra, for protection in all our actions, we call on thee in sacrifice. Thou art bold, terrible, mighty and subduer of the foe. We, thy friends, therefore, have chosen thee as our succour and aid. Come here Indra, the juice is effused, thou lord of corn, lord of steeds and lord of kine, and drink of Soma. Soma’s lord! We pray thee in our most reverential words. Then, why art thou pondering yet awhile? Here are our desires, here present are out prayers, O generous lord of the bay steeds. It is not that in recent times alone we have obtained thy aid, but in olden times also we had thy opulent riches, O thunderer. We had thy riches and friendship. These we now crave anew of thee, O hero! O Vasu, for the wealth in kine, increase and sharpen our strength, fair, visored one. I praise him, the same God who of old has been granting us this aid and that blessing, him I praise unto you, even Indra, O friends, for protection. Borne on car, drawn by bay steeds, the lord of men and horses, it is he devotees, thousands of cattle and steeds. May we, O hero, with thee for friend, resist one who frets against us in anger. May we win the fight with them rich in kine. May we be victorious in song-contests and challenge the fiend, O much invoked! May we strike the foe with our heroes putting forth their strength. O Maghavan, further thou our desires. O Indra, since thy birth thou art foeless ever, independent, all alone without a companion, yet thou longest for a friend in a war. Thou findest not the wealthy to be thy friend for thy flused with the wine of wealth destroy even their friends, when thou thunderest and gatherest, then thou art invoked by men as a father!

Come here Indra, come chariot-borne to the nice eulogy of the Sage. Ye have gone to heaven, by commands of Father Heaven, the God shining by day. O God, may the pressing stones, bring the here, the Some-stones with ringing sound. Ye have gone to heaven, by command of Father Heaven, the God shining by day. Just as a wolf shakes a sheep with terror, so do the stones shake the Soma here. Ye have gone to heaven by command of Father Heaven, the God shining by day! The Sages call thee here, O Indra, for help and to win the spoil. Here is set for thee the first draught of Soma expressed, as for the mighty. Come here with your plenteous blessings and perfect care to help us. Come, god of lofty mind, of abundant wealth and numerous aids. Agni, the Hotar-priest of men, the adorable God among Gods shall bring thee here. Just as an eagle is borne on its wings, so will ye be borne here on car drawn by speedy steeds. Come here to our sacrifice and Soma juice. Come from the enemy, with thine ear ready to hear our prayer and take delight in our lauds.
