O Indra, Lord of light, whatever joyous things thou hast broughtest from the wicked, prosper therewith thy devotees who laud thy deed, and then whose grass is spread for thee. O Indra, grant to thy devotees, who press out Soma juice and give gifts, their share of kine and steeds, which thou hast brought in spoil. Give them and not unto the ill-bred fellow. May he, the godless and riteless man who enjoys his unbroken slumber, O Maghavan, die by following his own device. Show him not the nourishing wealth. Whether O Shakra, thou be far or near at hand, thy worshipper who hath expressed Soma invites thee with his heaven-reaching hymns. O Vritra-slayer, lord of long maneed bay steeds! Whether thou be in heaven’s shining realm or in the basin of an ocean or in some other place on the earth or in the sky, come unto us to drink of the Soma draft, O lord of strength and gladden us by grating abundant wealth and thy favours. O God, turn us not away. Be present in our banquet with us for thou art our only refuge, yea, thou art our kin. O Indra, turn us not away! Sit ye down with us, sit beside the draught to enjoy the sweet. Sit beside us to drink the juice and shower your favours on thy singer! O Thunderer neither Gods nor mortals can attain thee. Thou in strength surpasseth all that hath been created. The Gods have not attained thee. All the heroes collectively have made Indra their King, one who is subduer of the foe, form in his seat of power, the great destroyer, fierce, exceedingly mighty, stalwart and full of vigour. The Bards in unison sing the praise of Indra that he might drink the juice, the lord of light whose laws are inviolate, that he might help with his aids. The sages form a ring, bow into him and sing his praise. Ye also, full of brilliance, free from guile, quick in action, should praise and worship him.

Sing ye a Soma-song to Indra, sing a great hymn to the lofty and wise God, who is worthy of adoration and loves praise. O Indra, thou art the conqueror, thou givest splendour to the Sun, thou art the creator of all things, the God of Gods and almighty. O Illuminator of the world with thy radiance, thou wentest to the luminous region of the space. The Gods strive to win thy friendship and love. Come unto us, O God Indra, ever conquering but never conquered, vast as a mountain spread in all directions, lord of the heaven. O truthful Soma drinker, mightier than the heaven and earth, Thou lendest strength to him who offers oblations, O lord of heavens! O Indra, lover of song, we draw nigh to thee with a longing. We have streamed to thee as waters follow waters! Just as the rivers swell the ocean, so do our hymns increase thy strength, O almighty hero, thunderarmed day by day. The sages yoke the bearers of Indra by a song. O Indra, give us manly strength, bring vigour, thou doer of manyfold deeds, grant us mother and a sire. So now for bliss we pray to thee, O gracious Indra. To thee, strong, much invoked, the source of all strength, do I pray, grant thou us heroic power!

O Thunder, thy devoted laud-singers gave thee Soma drink before. So listen to them, Indra, who offer thee praise, come nigh our dwelling place! O Indra! Lord of bay steeds, meet for praise, rejoice thee for thee we seek. Thy majesty is the loftiest, O Indra, lover of the song. Just as a son inherits his wealth from his father, so do we enjoy all good things from Indra, just as the rays of the Sun receive light from him. O men, laud him who gives us wealth, prompt with his generous gifts. Good are these things that come from Indra. He goads himself to give and satisfies the desires of all the devotees. O Indra, in our struggle against our foe, thou art the conquering, the dispeller of infamy, the victor of the violent. The earth and heaven cling close to thy victorious might, as do sire and mother to their child. When you attackest the Demons, all the enemies shrink and faint at thy wrath, O Indra!
