Their fierceness is like fire, their wrath like death (Yama); they are rich in crime and sin as Kuvera is in gold; they ruin all like Ketu at his rising and like the slumber of Kumbhakarna their decline alone is propitious for the world.


They even lay down their lives in order to be able to harm others, like hailstones that melt after destroying a crop. Regarding them as Shesha himself, I reverence those scoundrels who with a thousand tongues maliciously described the faults of others.


Again, I bow to those who, like Prithuraja, have ten thousand ears to hear of others’ faults; and yet again, I make my prayer to those who like Indra, ever delight in much strong drink.


- and love to use harsh words even as the thunder-bolt is fondly cherished by Indra, and detect others’ faults with a thousand eyes.


The wicked burn with jealousy as they hear of others’ welfare, be they neutrals, foes or friends; such is the way of villains. Knowing this, I, their humble servant, fold my hands and make loving entreaties.


I for my part have made my supplication, but they will not depart from their ways. However carefully you may bring up a crow and feed it on rice pudding, will it ever give up eating meat?


I do homage to the feet of saints and sinners, both give pain, but with a difference; for the absence of the former is like the pain of death, while the latter torture by their presence.
