Listen, Bharata; there is none in Ramachandra’s heart upon whom so much love is lavished as upon you. Lakshmana, Rama and Sita spent the whole night that day praising you with the utmost affection.

I came to know the secret only when they were bathing at Prayaga; they would often be overwhelmed with love for you. Rama’s affection for you is as great as that of a fool for a life of worldly pleasure.

And this is no great tribute to Raghunatha, who cherishes all his suppliants and their in. as for yourself, Bharata, my opinion is that you are the very incarnation of Rama’s love.

That which seems a disgrace to you, Bharata, is a lesson to us all; for this event, propitious like Ganesha, has ensured our success in attaining to the elixir of faith in Rama.

Your spotless glory, my son, is like the new moon, and Rama’s devotees are so many water-lilies (that open only in moonlight) and partridges (that are equally fond of the moon). It shall always remain above the horizon and shall never set, nor shall it wane in the world, its heaven, but wax greater day by day.

The three spheres, like the chakavas, shall be exceedingly enamoured of it, and the sun of Rama’s majesty shall never rob it of its brilliance; by night and by day it will ever be bountiful to all and the demon Rahu – Kaikeyi’s evil deeds – shall never eclipse it.

It is filled with the nectar of Rama’s pure love and is unsullied by any stain caused by insulting a guru; now may Rama’s votaries have their fill of nectar, for by creating the moon of your glory, you have brought it within the reach of the whole world.
