Cheerily replied the royal sage, ‘Bharata as well as his younger brother (Shatrughna) and all their company are distressed by separation from Rama; entertain them and relive them of their fatigue.’


The spirit in their embodied forms bowed to the command of the great sage and deemed themselves most highly favoured. The Siddhis said to one another, ‘Rama’s younger brother (Bharata) is indeed a guest beyond compare!


After doing homage to the sage’s feet, let us do today that which may gratify the whole royal company.’ So saying, they fashioned a number of dwellings of various patterns, which put to shame the aerial cars of the gods.


They were furnished with abundant luxuries and splendours, which the immortals beheld with longing eyes. Men-servants and maid-servants brought all that was needed and remained in attendance, giving their whole mind to the pleasure of the guests.


The Siddhis supplied in an instant all the comforts that are not even dreamed of in heaven; first of all they assigned to each guest quarters, elegant and comfortable and suited to the taste of the occupant.


Then apartments were assigned to Bharata and his household, for such were the instructions given by the sage, who astonished the Creator by the magnificence produced by the power of his penance.


When Bharata beheld the sage’s power, the realms of all the rulers of the sphere seemed to him as trifles. The luxuries provided were more than one could describe; even the wise forget their dispassion on seeing them.
