Great and unbounded favour has Sita’s lord shown me in every way!’ then, bowing his head and folding his lotus hands, Bharata said:

‘O lord, the ocean of compassion, knower of all hearts, what now can I say myself or have others to say for me? Now that my guru is pleased and my master is gracious, the imaginary torments of my troubled soul are all over.

False were the fears that frightened me, idle my anxiety. It is no fault of the sun, O Lord, if anyone mistakes his direction. My own ill luck, my mother’s perversity, the crooked ways of providence and fate’s malignity.

-all conspired with the avowed object of ruining me, but the protector of his suppliants came to my rescue by redeeming his vow (of protecting his votaries). This is no novel procedure for you; it is well known to the world as well as to the Vedas, and is no secret.

If the whole world is evil and you alone are good, then tell me, my lord, through whose goodness, if not through yours, can one’s good be accomplished? Your disposition, divine Lord, is like that of the tree of Paradise, which never treats any with favour or disfavour.

Should anyone draw near to the tree of Paradise recognizing it as such, its shade relieves all anxiety, and prince and pauper, good and evil, all obtain in this world the fruit that they desire for the asking.

Having seen my guru and my master (yourself) affectionate to me in every way, my anxiety is at an end and my mind is free from doubt. Now, O mine of compassion, do whatever will be for your servant’s good, without being a trouble to the soul of my lord.
