If the two brothers are determined not to return,-for Raghunatha is true to his word and firm of resolve,-then do you entreat him with folded hands: "Send back, my lord, the daughter of Mithila’s king."

When Sita is frightened at the sight of the forest, avail yourself of that opportunity and tell her my instruction: "The parents of your husband have sent this message to you: ‘Return home, my daughter; there are many perils in the forest.

You can stay at your pleasure now with your own father, now with your husband’s parent.’ So try every means to bring her back; if she returns, it will be the succour of my life;

-if not, all this will end in my death; nothing avails against an adverse fate!’ So saying, the king fell to the ground in a swoon, exclaiming , ‘O bring back Rama and Lakshmana and Sita and show them to me!’

Having received the king’s commands, Sumantra bowed his head to him and got ready a most swift chariot, and went to the outskirts of the city, where Sita and the two princely brothers were.

Then Sumantra declared to them the king’s message and with humble submission persuaded Rama to mount the chariot. The two brothers mounted the chariot with Sita, and mentally bowing their heads to Ayodhya, set out on their journey.

When the people saw Rama set out and Avadh left desolate, they began confusedly to follow him. The gracious Lord used every means to dissuade them, and they turned homewards, but overmastered by their affection, they came back again.
