In this night of mundane existence it is ascetics along who keep awake, ascetics who are in quest of the highest truth and detach themselves from unreality. Then only may a soul be regarded as waking in this world when it renounces every sensual enjoyment.

It is only when true discernment dawns that the errors of delusion disappear, and then (with the coming of spiritual enlightenment) is born devotion to the feet of Raghunatha. This, my friend, is the highest spiritual wisdom: to be devoted to the feet of Rama in thought and word and deed:

Rama is no other than Brahma (the Absolute), the supreme Reality, incomprehensible, imperceptible, beginningless, incomparable, unchangeable and beyond all diversity, ever defined by the Vedas as "Not thus".

Ramachandra, the gracious Lord, takes human form and plays the part of a man for the well-being of his votaries and of earth and Brahmans and cows and gods. On hearing them, all worldly snares are broken asunder

Remember this, my friend, and shed all infatuation and be devoted to the feet of Sita and Rama.’ While Lakshmana was yet recounting Rama’s perfections, the day dawned and the joy and blessing of the world awoke

After performing every purificatory rite, Rama, the all-pure and wise, bathed and asked for some milk of the banyan, and coiled his hair into a knot on his head, as did also his brother, a sight which filled Sumantra’s eyes with tears

Sore pained at heart and with a doleful face, he folded his hands and spoke in most piteous accents, ‘The king of Kosala, my lord, charged me thus: "Take the chariot and go with Rama;
