With folded hands and in pathetic tones Guha addressed the Lord: ‘Hear my prayer, O jewel of the house of Raghu! Let me stay with you, my lord, and show you the way and for a few days wait upon your feet.

I shall fashion a fair hut of leaves for you in whichever forest, O Raghuraja, you may go and take up your abode. After that I swear by you, O Raghubira, to do as you bid me!

When he perceived his unfeigned affection, Rama took him with him and Guha was overjoyed. Then Guha summoned all his kinsmen and sent them away with kind assurances.

Then directing his thoughts to Ganesha and Shiva and bowing his head to the celestial stream (Ganga), the Lord set out for the woods with his friend (Guha), his brother (Lakshmana) and Sita.

That day he halted under a tree, and Lakshmana and his companion (Guha) provided for all his comforts. At daybreak the Lord performed his morning duties and then went on till he saw Prayaga, the sovereign of holy places.

This sovereign (of holy places) has Truth for his minister, Faith for his beloved consort and Madhava (Bindumadhava, the deity presiding over Prayaga) for his beneficent friend and favourite. His treasury is stored with the four great rewards of life and the sacred region surrounding the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna marks his most fair dominion.
