They blush to hear themselves praised but rejoice beyond measure to hear the praises of others; are even-minded and placid and persistent in right conduct; guileless by nature and loving;

- absorbed in prayer and penance and vows, in controlling the senses, in self-denial and in religious observances. They are devoted to the feet of their guru, Govinda (Vishnu) and the Brahmans; faithful, compassionate, friendly, merciful, cheerful and sincerely devoted to my fee.

They are perfect in dispassion, discretion, modesty and spiritual wisdom, with unfeigned knowledge of the Vedas and Puranas. They display no self-conceit or pride or arrogance, nor set their foot upon the path of wickedness even my mistake.

They are ever engaged in signing or hearing my sportive acts and are unselfishly intent on doing good to others. In short, O good sage, the qualities that distinguish the saints are so numerous that not even Sharada or the Vedas could tell them all.

No, not even Sharada or Shesha could tell them! As soon as he heard this, Narada clasped the Lord’s lotus feet. Thus did the all-merciful Lord, the befriender of the lowly, proclaim with his own lips the virtues of his devotees. Narada bowed his head before the Lord’s feet again and again and left for the realm of Brahma (the Creator). Blessed are they, says Tulasidasa, who giving up all other hope unite themselves to God by love (i.e. who are caught up and transformed by him and led into fruition).

Those who sing or hear the sanctifying praises of Ravana’s foe shall be rewarded with steadfast devotion to Rama, even without dispassion, prayer or asceticism.

A young woman is like the flame of a lamp O my soul, be not as the moth to it! Discarding lust and pride, worship Rama and ever seek the fellowship of the righteous.
