Whenever they came across a demon they would take his life with a single blow. They looked into every recess of forest and hill; and if they met a hermit, they would all crowd round him.


Presently they felt much oppressed with thirst, and losing their way in the dense forest, could find no water. Hanuman thought to himself that without water to drink they were all likely to perish.


So he climbed a hill top and looked all round, and in a gaping hole in the earth saw a strange pehenomenon. Chakavas, herons and swans hovered at its mouth and a great number of other birds were making their way into it.


Coming down from the hill, the Son of the Wind brought all the monkeys and showed them the cavern. They put Hanuman at their head and entered the cave without delay.


Going further inside, they saw a lovely garden and a lake covered with full-blown lotuses; and there, too, was a magnificent temple where sat a woman who was austerity incarnate.


They all bowed their heads to her from a distance and in response to her request explained their circumstances. She then said, ‘Drink and eat every kind of luscious and beautiful fruit.’


They all bathed and ate the delicious fruit and then all came and drew near to her while she related to them her own story and added, ‘I will now go and visit Raghunatha.
