Do you close your eyes and leave the cave; you shall recover Sita; do not despair.’ The champion shut their eyes and when they opened them again, lo ! They found themselves standing on the sea-shore.


But she meanwhile had gone to Raghunatha and drawing near to him, bowed her head at his lotus feet and made much supplication; the Lord bestowed upon her the gift of unceasing devotion.


In obedience to the Lord’s command she left for the forest of Badarinatha (in Himalayas) cherishing in her heart Rama’s two feet, which are adored by Brahma and Mahesha.


Now the monkeys were thinking to themselves, ‘The appointed time has passed and yet nothing has been done.’ Sitting together, they all said to one another, ‘Brother, if we abandon our pursuit and return to the city without any tidings of Sita, what shall we do there?


Said Angad with his eyes full of tears, ‘It is death for us either way. Here we have failed to get tidings of Sita and if we go home Sugriva the Monkey King will slay us.


No sooner was my father slain than Sugriva would have killed me too, had not Rama come to my rescue. In no way am I therefore obliged to Sugriva. Again and again Angad told them all that they were doomed to certain death


When the monkey warriors heard Angad’s words, they could make no answer; tears rolled from their eyes. For a moment they were plunged in sorrow; but at last they all began to day.
