‘In the Tretayuga,’ he said, ‘the Absolute will take the form of a human being; the demon king (Ravana) will carry off his spouse. The Lord will send out spies to search for her, and when you meet them, you will be absolved of all sins,

-and your wings will sprout again; do not be anxious; show them where Sita may be.’ The sage’s prophecy has come true today. Follow my instructions and accomplish the mission of the Lord.

On the summit of Mount Trikuta stands the city of Lanka. There lives Ravana in absolute security; and there, in a grove of ashoka trees, is lodged Sita, who sits there even now, plunged in grief.

Even sinners who meditate on Rama’s name cross the infinitely boundless ocean of mundane existence. You, who are his envoys, should never lose your nerve but be up and doing with the image of Rama enshrined in your hearts.’

So saying, Garuda, the vulture departed, leaving them much amazed at heart. Now each one of the monkeys boasted of his strength but doubted this ability to cross the ocean.
