As he went, he roared aloud with such a terrible roar that the wives of the demons, who heard it, began to miscarry. Taking a leap across the ocean, he reached the further shore and greeted his fellow-monkeys with a shrill cry of triumph.

They were all delighted to see Hanuman and felt they had gained a new spell of life. He wore a cheerful countenance and his body shone with a brilliance which left no doubt in their minds that he had accomplished Ramachandra’s mission.

They all met him and felt as delighted as a floundering fish feels when it gets back into the water. They then set out with joy to see Raghunatha, asking and telling as they went all their latest news.

Then they all entered Madhuvana and with Angad’s consent began to eat its luscious fruit. When the watchmen interfered, they were beaten off with their fists till they all took to their heels.

They all went and cried out that the Crown Prince was laying waste the royal garden. Sugriva rejoiced to hear it, for he knew that the monkeys must have returned after successfully completing the Lord’s business.

"If they had failed to hear tidings of Sita,’ he said to himself, ‘could they be eating the fruit of Madhuvana?’ while the king was thus musing, Hanuman and his party arrived.

Drawing near, they all bowed their heads at his feet and the Monkey King embraced them all and asked after their well-being. ‘Now that we have seen your feet,’ they said, ‘it is well with us; by Rama’s grace the task has been accomplished.
