An ocean of compassion, he has assumed the form of humanity for the good of the earth and the Brahmans, the cows and the gods. Listen, brother: he delights his votaries and breaks the ranks of all the hosts of evil and is the champion of the Vedas and of righteousness.


Giving up enmity with him, bow your head to him, for Raghunatha relieves the distress of those seek refuge in him. Surrender Videha’s daughter to the Lord, O king, and adore Rama, the disinterested friend of all.


The Lord abandons not him who comes to him for protection, though he were guilty of being hostile to the whole world. Bear this in mind, Ravana: the same Lord whose name destroys every calamity is manifest (in human form).


Again and again I touch your feet and entreat you, O Ten-headed, to have done with pride, infatuation and arrogance and worship the king of Kosala.


The sage Pulastya (our grandfather) has sent this message to us by his own disciple; availing myself of this opportunity, my brother, I have immediately conveyed it to you.’


Now Ravana had a very old and prudent minister, Malyavan. He was gratified to hear Vibhishana’s counsel and said, ‘Your younger brother, sire, is the very ornament of wisdom, take to heart what he says.’


'These two wretches are glorifying the enemy,’ said Ravana: ‘is there no one here who will rid me of them?’ Malyavan thereupon returned home, but Vibhishana began again with foled hands:
