With such fond expectations in his mind, Vibhishana instantly reached the further shore of the sea. When the monkeys saw Vibhishana coming, they took him for some special envoy from the enemy.


Detaining him outside, they came to Sugriva the Monkey King and told him all the circumstances. Said Sugriva, ‘Listen, Raghunatha; Ravana’s brother (Vibhishana) has come to see you.’


'What do you advise, friend?’ said the Lord, ‘Mark my words, sire,; replied the lord of the monkeys, the wiles of these demons are past all understanding. One does not know why he has come here, he who is capable of taking any form he likes.

Hanuman rejoiced to hear the Lord’s reply and said to himself, ‘How like a loving father the Blessed Lord loves all who flee to him!’


Then said Rama again, ‘Those who forsake a suppliant from suspicion that he may do them an injury are vile and sinful; the very sight of them causes harm.


I would not abandon even the murderer of ten million Brahmans if he sought refuge in me. As soon as any creature appears before me, the sins of all his ten million lives are washed away.
