'Although, my friend, you have no craving, yet the vision of myself never fails to bring its reward all over the world.’ So saying, Rama applied on his forehead the sacred mark of sovereignty. An infinite shower of blossoms rained down from the sky.


Thus did Rama rescue Vibhishana, who was being consumed in the fire of Ravana’s wrath, fanned to fury by the strong blast of his own (Vibhishana’s) breath (words), and bestow on him undivided sovereignty


Rama hesitatingly conferred on Vibhishana all that wealth which Shiva had bestowed on Ravana for the sacrifice of his ten heads.


Those who desert such a Lord to worship any other are mere beasts without tails and horns. Recognizing Vibhishana as his own votary, the Lord accepted him in his service; the amiability of the Lord’s disposition gladdened the hearts of the whole monkey host.


Then spoke the All-wise, who dwells in the hearts of all, assuming any form at will, though himself bereft of all and passionless, and who had appeared in human semblance for the purpose of destroying the demon race. Strictly observing the rules of decorum, he said,


'Listen, O Sugriva and valiant Vibhishana; how are we to cross the deep ocean full of all varieties of alligators, serpents and fish, most unfathomable and absolutely impassable?’


'Listen, Raghunatha,’ said the king of Lanka; ‘though your arrow itself could dry up a myriad oceans, yet it would be a better policy to go and make petition to Ocean.
