Raghubira is exceedingly mild of disposition, though he is the sovereign of all the world. As soon as you meet him the Lord will be gracious to you and will not take to heart even one of your offences.

Pray, restore Janaka’s daughter to Raghunatha; concede just this request of mine, my lord.’ When Shukla asked him to surrender Videha’s daughter, the scoundrel kicked him with his foot.

He bowed his head at Ravana’s feet and went to join Raghunatha, the ocean of grace. Making obeisance to the Lord, he told him his story and by Rama’s grace regained his proper state.

(Said Shankara -) He was in reality enlightened sage, Bhavani, turned into a demon by the ruse of the seer Agastya. Over and over again the sage did homage to Rama’s feet and then went his way to his own hermitage.

Though three days passed, dull-witted Ocean paid no heed to the Lord’s prayer; then cried Rama in a fury: ‘He will do no kindness unless I threaten him.

Lakshmana, bring me my bow and arrows that with a shaft of fire I may dry up the deep. To make petition to an idiot, to lavish affection upon a rogue, to give counsel (of liberality) to a born miser,

- to speak of wisdom to one absorbed in worldiness, to glorify dispassion before a man of excessive greed or advise mind-control to an irascible man and to discourse on the exploits of Hari to a lecher, is all the same as sowing seed in barren ground.’
