‘Compose yourself, mother,’ said Hanuman, ‘and fix your thoughts on Rama, delight of his servants. Reflect upon the glory of Raghunatha and, as you listen to my words, shake off all faint-heartedness.


The demon troops are like so many moths and Raghunatha’s shafts are like flames; be of good cheer, mother, and take the demons as consumed already.


If Rama only knew, he would not have made delay. How can the darkness of the demon host linger on when Rama’s shafts, Janaki, rise like the sun?


This very moment, mother, would I have taken you to him myself, but – I swear it by Rama – I have no such orders from the Lord. Wait patiently, mother, for a few days more, till Rama comes with his troops of monkeys.


Slaughtering the demons, he will carry you away, and Narada and the other sages will hymn his glory throughout the three spheres.’ ‘But, my son.’ She said, ‘the monkeys must be all like you, whereas the demons are mighty great warriors;


- and so I have grave misgivings in my heart on this score’. On hearing this, monkey showed himself in his own proper form, colossal like a mountain of gold, terrible in battle and exceedingly mighty and valorous.
