Men are afflicted with a host of diseases and bereavements, which are surely the fruit of this disregard for your lotus feet. Those men who have no love for your holy feet continue to drift in the bottomless ocean of existence.

They are free from passion, greed, arrogance and pride, and regard prosperity and adversity as both alike. Thus it is that sages abandon for ever all confidence in ascetic practice and gladly become your servants.

With a pure heart and strict observance they unceasingly and lovingly wait upon your lotus feet. Regarding honour and ignominy as one, all such saints wander happily about the earth.

O you who haunt as a bee the lotus-like souls of sages! O Raghubira, invincible and exceedingly staunch hero, I worship you. Your name, O Hari, I repeat in prayer and adore you, sovereign remedy for the sickness of birth and death and enemy of pride!

I constantly greet you, Lakshmi’s lord, supreme abode of goodness, amiability and grace! Destroy, O delight of the Raghus, all pairs of contraries (such as joy and sorrow, birth and death, attraction and repulsion, etc.)! O sovereign of earth, look graciously upon your humble servant!
