A sun to scatter the thick darkness of doubt and grief, and a fire to burn up the dense forest of the demon race. Why not worship Janaki and Raghubira, who dispels the fear of rebirth.

and slays the swarm of manifold sensual desires as frost kills a swarm of mosquitoes; who is ever unchangeable, unborn and imperishable, the delight of the sages, the reliever of the earth’s burdens, the munificent Lord of Tulasidasa?’

Thus did the men and women of the city sing Rama’s praises, while on his part the Lord of grace was ever propitious to them all.

From the time, O king of birds, when the most dazzling sun of Rama’s glory arose, the three spheres were all suffused with radiance, which brought delight to many and sorrow to many others.

First to enumerate the sorrowful: to begin with, the night of ignorance was dispelled; the owls of sin hid themselves wherever they could, and the white lilies of lust and anger closed and withered.

Formalism of various kinds, the elements of nature, time and individualism were as ill at ease as the partridge; envy, pride, infatuation and arrogance were like thieves who had no occasion to display their skill in any quarter.

But on the pools of piety blossomed the varied lotuses of wisdom and understanding; and happiness, contentment, dispassion and discernment, like so many chakavas, were rid of sorrow.
