Tears streamed from his lotus eyes and his beauteous body quivered with emotion. The Lord Rama, the sovereign of the three worlds, embraced Bharata and clasped him to his bosom. There is no similitude by which I can illustrate the beauty of the Lord meeting with his brother; it was as though the Erotic sentiment and Affection had met together in exquisite bodily form.

The all-merciful Rama asked after Bharata’s well-being, but it was with difficulty that he found words to reply. Listen, Parvati, such bliss as Bharata’s is beyond one’s speech and thought; it is known only to those who feel it. ‘Now is all well with me, O lord of Kosala,’ said Bharata, ‘for seeing your servant’s distress, you have allowed him to see you and have taken him by the hand, O gracious Lord, and rescued him when he was sinking in the sea of bereavement.’

With great gladness in his heart the Lord then embraced Shatrughna and pressed him to his bosom. Next, the two brothers, Lakshmana and Bharata, embraced each other, their hearts overflowing with love.

Then Lakshmana embraced Shatrughna, thus relieving each other of the intolerable grief of separation. Bharata and Shatrughna bowed their heads before Sita’s feet and experienced supreme happiness.

The citizens rejoiced at the sight of the Lord, and their sorrow caused by his absence now ended. Seeing all the people affectionately impatient to greet him, the al-merciful Rama, the slayer of Khara, wrought a miracle.

At one and the same moment the Lord of grace became manifest in countless forms and greeted everyone with due ceremony. Looking on them all with compassionate eyes, Raghubira made every man and woman supremely happy.

In a moment the Blessed Lord greeted them all; this was a mystery, Uma, which none could fathom. Having thus gratified all, Rama, the home of amiability and every virtue, went on his way.
