The soul dependent (subject to illusion), God is self-dependent, Jivas (souls) are many, but Lakshmi’s lord is one (without a second) are many, but Lakshmi’s lord is one (without a second). Even though this distinction, created by illusion, is false, yet it cannot disappear except by Hari’s grace, whatever you may do.


The man who hopes for liberation (from the bonding of karma and the wheel of birth and death) without worshipping Ramachandra is but a beast without tail and horns, however wise he may be.


Though the moon were to rise with all its sixteen kalas and the whole starry host, and though the forests on every mountain were set on fire, night would not yield except to the sun.


Even so, O Garuda, men’s souls cannot be rid of their suffering without worshipping Hari. Ignorance affects not a servant of Hari, for it is knowledge, directed by the Lord, that pervades his whole being.


Therefore, best of birds, the servant is not destroyed; on the other hand his devotion to his master grows ever stronger. When Rama saw me bewildered by confusion, he laughed. Now hear that wondrous act as well.


The secret of this diversion nobody could comprehend, neither his younger brothers nor yet his father or mother. With his swarthy form and rosy hands and feet Rama crawled on his hands and knees to catch me.


Then, O enemy of serpents, I took to flight and Rama stretched out his arms to seize me. High as I flew into the sky, I still saw Rama’s arms close beside me.
